Vorfeed.net B.M. Reviews - Assaulter - Omnipotent

Artist: Assaulter (AUS)
Album Title: Omnipotent
Label: Self-released

This is the second demo from Assaulter, an Australian band playing black/thrash/heavy metal.

Assaulter describe themselves as "dark speed metal", and that's about what you'll get with this demo. It's definitely a bit more speed-metal sounding than their last demo, with plenty of frantic, ripping guitar. The change is quite positive, as it gives this band a unique sound that stands apart from S. Berserker's previous band, Destroyer 666. The epic song structures and grandiose guitar lines are still here, though, so if you enjoyed that aspect of the previous demo, you won't be disappointed. The mid-paced parts in particular have a touch of black metal edge to them.

"Vengeance Whips" is a mostly mid-paced number with some impressively triumphant vocal and guitar parts. The soloing here is especially great, particularly during the tempo change before the end. In contrast, "Proselytiser" is driving and frantic. Plenty of opportunities for headbanging with this one. The transitions between the chaotic and straightforward parts are excellent! The demo finishes up with an epic, "The Great Subterfuge". It starts out with two minutes of rousing instrumental work, before settling down into a vicious main riff. The vocals on this song absolutely drip with hatred and contempt. What a KILLER anti-Christian song! It's easy enough to work out the meaning, here, but I still wish they'd included a lyrics sheet, because words this meaningful ought to be printed...

Demos don't get much better than this. Omnipotent is a great taste of what Assaulter can do, and a fine follow-up to their Proselytiser demo. If you're into black/thrash bands like Destroyer 666, Gospel of the Horns, Desaster, or Urn, get this at any cost! Highest recommendations.
